One man arrested in a Christmas Eve assault was sentenced to jail Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court.

Arasheo Butler, 20, of 1021 S. Sixth St., Ironton, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of assault. He was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail, of which 150 days were suspended. He was also sentenced to one year probation and ordered to pay a $200 fine and court costs.

A first-degree felony charge of aggravated burglary was dismissed.

Butler was arrested on Dec. 24, along with Rashard Carter, 21, of 605 S. Eighth St. Apt. B, following the complaint of a victim who alleged the two men forced their way into his home.

Carter, who was wearing a GPS monitor as a condition of bond from Lawrence County Common Pleas Court, was tracked to his apartment with the help of the Adult Probation Agency.

Carter, who was already facing charges of two fourth-degree and one fifth-degree counts of trafficking in crack cocaine, as well as a fourth-degree count of trafficking in heroin, was charged with first-degree aggravated burglary and misdemeanor assault.

According to court records, Carter waived his preliminary hearing and a grand jury will decide if there is enough evidence to indict on the burglary charge. The assault charge is pending.
