Green High School has been named a High Progress School of Honor by the Ohio Department of Education.
The honor is Green’s first of this kind, and was awarded based on academic performance for the 2012-2013 school year.
“It’s a huge honor,” said Sandy Mers superintendent for Green local schools. “It’s very exciting and I couldn’t be more proud of the staff we have here.”
Mers says the award is the result of a collaborative effort between the school’s faculty and its students.
“Our teachers do a great job,” Mers said. “They tap into the skills and interest of each student to get the most out of them. The students to their credit have responded to it and worked hard. It’s nice to seem them recognized.”
Ironton and Symmes Valley high schools were named Ohio Schools of Promise earlier in the year. Green was the only local school named as a Progress School of Honor. The honor is awarded based on schools having a top 10 percent graduation rate, and a top 10 percent in proficiency gains.
