Last Friday Lawrence-Scioto County Solid Waste Management Department announced the winners of its inaugural Let’s Get Dramatic video contest.
The purpose of the contest was to help teach students about the importance of recycling and allow them to do so in a creative fashion.
“We wanted the kids to understand the importance of recycling and how they could help environment,” said Stephanie Helms, of the LSSWMD. “We also wanted the kids to be able to explore their creativity and have fun doing it.”
The rules of the contest dictated that each video could be no longer than three minutes, and that each school was limited to no more than three entries.
“We named winners from both Lawrence and Scioto counties,” Helms said. “All the videos were great and we hope next year the contest grows.”
Jacob Barber and Shayna Thacker from Ironton High School were the Lawrence County winners, while the team of Alayna Waller, Myra Sosby, Cayley Rase and Juliana Logan from Wheelersburg High won for Scioto County.
The winning teams were presented with $250 and will have their videos featured on the LSSWMD website at www.lsswmd.com.
A panel of judges from Ohio University Southern selected the winners.
