HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The son of a couple killed in the 1970 Marshall University plane crash is the featured speaker at this year’s memorial service for the victims.

Huntington attorney John Proctor was 5 years old when the Thundering Herd football team’s plane crashed on Nov. 14, 1970, just short of Tri-State Airport while returning from a game at East Carolina.

The crash killed 75 people, including Proctor’s parents, H.D. “Pete” Proctor and his wife, Courtney Josephine Proctor.

Proctor says in a Marshall news release that he doesn’t remember much about the crash. But he’s thankful that he grew up under the guidance of many people, including his family and his parents’ friends.

The service is set for noon Nov. 14 at the Memorial Student Center plaza on Marshall’s campus.
