A Coal Grove man shot by a homeowner as he was allegedly attempting a robbery was interviewed by Lawrence County Sheriff’s detectives over the weekend.
Brandon Blake Danner, 18, was shot as he was allegedly breaking into a storage shed on another man’s property in Coal Grove.
“Our detectives did go talk to him,” Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said. “The investigation is ongoing. He has been cooperative with our detectives.”
Since the shooting Danner has been in Cabell Huntington Hospital where he underwent surgery. At that time, his condition was critical. As of Tuesday afternoon Danner’s condition has been upgraded to good.
According to Lawless, the homeowner heard a noise and went to investigate. The homeowner allegedly saw Danner removing a motorcycle from the shed. The homeowner said Danner had told him he had a knife.
The name of the homeowner has not been released as the investigation is ongoing and the homeowner fears retribution, Lawless said.
Right now Danner has been charged with breaking and entering, a fifth degree felony.
The office of County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson is investigating the shooting and the alleged attempted theft.
