Burlington residents of Precinct 1 will vote in a few days to allow Sam’s and Walmart to sell alcohol in their stores. Please understand that Sam’s and Walmart are not interested in your wellbeing.

It is all about controlling the alcohol sales, which are worth billions of dollars in sales each year.

They want to be able to control all the items that you need and then you would live under a business monopoly.

Webster’s Dictionary states that a monopoly is a corporation or cartel, which effectively controls the production and selling price of any commodity. Once all other companies are driven out of business, you have a business monopoly.

At that point, then you can set the price of all items at whatever price you want.

I know that we have government laws against monopolies, but since when does the government work together for the good of all the people at any given time?

They proved that in this past government shutdown, which did not help any of us.

When I was a child, I remember a country singer by the name of Tennessee Ernie Ford who sang a song with these words, “St. Peter don’t call me, because I can’t come, for I owe my soul to the company store.”

Be careful how you vote. This could be your new song, residents of Burlington.

Burlington is a wonderful place to live. Let’s keep it that way. Please vote no to alcohol sales.
