An accident on the corner of Fifth and Ashtabula streets sent one man to the hospital Monday morning.
The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m.
Fred Stamper, who witnessed the accident said the driver of a green Ford Escort station wagon was traveling on Fifth Street when it was struck by a white Kia Sportage, which was traveling North on Ashtabula.
“She didn’t even attempt to stop (at the stop sign),” Stamper, who was driving behind the green vehicle, said. “She just ploughed on through.”
“That’s when he broadsided her,” Stamper said of the driver of green vehicle.
Sgt. Tony Forrest of the Ironton Police Department said the driver of the Sportage failed to yield, causing the accident.
“It’s pretty much a failure to yield, since he had the right-of-way,” Forrest said.
There were no visible injuries, but the driver of the green station wagon was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Forrest said.
The names of both drivers were unvailable as of press time.
