DR. WILLIAM HASKINS

Dr. William “Bill” L. Haskins, 78, of Chillicothe, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in Adena Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Lawrence Co., OH, to the late William D. and Iva Adkins Haskins. On July 17, 1976, he married the former Wanda M. Brown, who survives.
Also surviving are his son, William Craig Haskins, Cincinnati; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy (Dr. John) Murgo, Kingston; a daughter Lee Michelle King, Kingston; his step-children, Becky (Mark) Rogge, Bainbridge, Matt Bonner, Chillicothe, Theresa (Jeff) Cutlip, Chillicothe, Laura (Paul) Thimons, Kettering, Joseph (Toni) Bonner, Ashland, Ky.; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister Betty Hunt, Ironton; his mother-in-law, Opal Brown, Chillicothe; brother-in-law, Roy (Dottie) Brown, Granville; his nieces, Beth “Buffy” (Sean “Corky”) Hammers, Barboursville, W.Va., Bobbi Ann (Merril) Triplett, Portsmouth; and his best friend, Dick Stewart.
He was predeceased by his step-son, Robert Bonner II; grandchildren, Heidi Cutlip and Dusty Cutlip; great-grandchildren, Kingston Pettiford and Tanasia Bonner; and his brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Hunt.
Bill retired in 1996 after 20 years as chief of medicine from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Prior to that, he spent many years in the U.S. Army, serving as commanding officer of the Evacuation Hospital in Pusan, Korea. All totaled, Bill gave 36 1/2 years of service to his country. He was a member of the Church Triumphant. Bill enjoyed working on his farm and hunting.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Haller Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Terry officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co.
