CHESAPEAKE — The 18th annual Chesapeake Oktoberfest will take place beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Triangle Park in Chesapeake.
“We had a great crowd last year,” Bill Gilpin, Chesapeake mayor, said. “We expect a great crowd again this year. We always get a lot of people out to this event.”
Oktoberfest will be a great place to be for those who might be hungry, as church booths and various organizations will be there selling chili, hot dogs, hamburgers, barbeque and baked goods.
An event staple, Dan and Rena Fulks will be at the event early to set up their kettles of brown beans.
“We’ll be all over the place,” Rena said. “Our beans will be everywhere.”
Gilpin said there would be entertainment and the usual car show, but the 5K run will not take place at this year’s event.
“We just didn’t have enough participation,” he said. “There are some other runs going on at the same time and we weren’t getting people to register like we normally do, so we’ll try to do that again next year.”
A fire parade will begin at 11 a.m. in accordance with October being National Fire Prevention Month.
