PEDRO — Portsmouth West won the battle of ground games.
The Senators’ running game rolled up 291 yards on 40 carries en route to a 34-6 win over the Rock Hill Redmen Friday.
West (1-3) had 344 total yards as quarterback John Berry was 4 of 6 passing for 53 yards.
Rock Hill (0-4) had 143 net yards on 42 attempts. Jonah Cox had a big night with 110 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.
The Senators scored just before the end of the first quarter on a 3-yard run by Jimmy Howell. Justin Scott ran for the conversion and an 8-0 lead.
The score remained that way until Austin Bricker’s 5-yard scoring run with 2:36 left in the half. Zach Dials kicked the conversion for a 15-0 lead.
Rock Hill then made a mistake with a muffed punt and Wesley Book ran 33 yards for a touchdown off the fumble recovery and it was 21-0 with 57 seconds on the clock.
The Redmen tried to turn things around at the start of the second half when Jonah Cox bolted 44 yards for a touchdown and it was 21-6.
But Dylan Koons answered with a 1-yard scoring run two minutes later and it was 27-6.
Koons added a 6-yard touchdown run with 10:28 left to play to set the final score.
