There’ll be a hot time in the old town Monday when the Joe Freeman Bluegrass Band plays at Ohio University Proctorville Center as a part of a reorganization plan for the Chesapeake, Proctorville, Rome Lions Club.

The band is well-known throughout the region and has been featured in several television appearances.

The reorganization brings about a new day of the week for the club’s regular meetings and going from two meetings a month to one.  The new plan calls for a regular meeting the second Monday of the month.  Giovanni’s in Chesapeake will remain the regular meeting location with occasional visits to other parts of the county.

Lions Club President Paul Hart said he is looking forward to the new look and is excited about new members joining up.  Along with the picking and singing there will be lots of food and fellowship.

Each club member is encouraged to wear his red vest and ID badge and bring at least one new potential member.  Litter awareness group Operation TLC is invited, as the organization has recently formed a partnership with the Lions. Upcoming events for the Lions Club will be the Octoberfest in Chesapeake on Oct. 12.

The club will be fixing sandwiches and other goodies at that event.

Then, Saturday Nov. 2, the club’s annual Pancake Breakfast will be held at Chesapeake Middle School. This is the club’s most important fundraiser of the year.

The Lions Club’s main mission remains the providing of free glasses and eye exams for those who can’t afford them.  The festivities on Sept. 16 will begin at 6 p.m.
