Gary Kingery
E. Gary Kingery, 77, of Ravenna, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013. He was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Ironton, to John and Birdie (Higgins) Kingery. A Ravenna resident since the 1960s, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, worked for Oak Rubber, the Ravenna Arsenal and GFS and was a member of the Italian American Society, VFW 1055 and the Ravenna Moose.
Survivors include his daughter, Christina Marie Zepp of Ocala, Fla.; son, Donald Hans Kingery of Oakland, Calif.; one grandchild; sisters, Norma Jean Champ of Mt. Gilead; Vickie Sue Gilbert of Minford, Janie Smith of Ironton, Robin Kingery of Minford and Roxanne Varney of King George, Va.; and brothers, Michael of Marion, Howard of Wheelersburg and Mackie Dale of Minford. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Hilda Faye Bradley; and brothers, Roger Dean, Rocky Dean, George Arnold and John Spears Kingery. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna. Lawrence Joseph
Lawrence E. “Oakie” Joseph passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Betty Markin Joseph, and his loving daughter, Lauren Joseph of Lexington, Ky. He was preceded in death by a beloved son, Mark Edward Joseph.
Oakie was born in Coal Grove, July 11, 1920, the only son of Charles Oakley and Sophia Williams Joseph.
He was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School where he was an outstanding basketball player for the Hornets.
He served his country in the U.S Army Air Corps during WWII.
He retired from Allied Chemical after 33 years of service. While employed there, he was the recording secretary for Local 3687 USWA for 25 years.
Oakie was instrumental in the creation of the park in Coal Grove, serving on the park board and spending many hours working on the actual construction of the park.
In addition to his parents and son he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, James and Dorothy Price; and his father and mother-in-law, Jason and Sadie Markin.
Oakie was a kind and generous man known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Brad Jenkins, pastor of the Memorial Methodist Church, officiating, the church Oakie attended. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Otis Fulks
Otis William Fulks, 74, of Scottown, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Pastor Richard Unroe. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller.
