A man and woman from South Point answered child endangerment charges Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Cory A. Brewer, 23, of 428 Township Road 109, and Michelle D. Brandenburg, 22, of 19 Township Road 1336, were each arraigned on a third-degree count of child endangerment regarding Brandenburg’s 2-year-old daughter.

Brewer was also charged with a second-degree count of felonious assault; Brandenburg was also charged with a third-degree count of obstructing justice.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson, the child was taken to the hospital with a broken arm and leg, which Brewer, Brandenburg’s boyfriend, allegedly caused. The couple was also allegedly under the influence of heroin, Anderson said.

The couple was arraigned separately and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mike Gleichauf asked Judge D. Scott Bowling to set high cash bonds — $75,000 for Brewer and $50,000 for Brandenburg.

Bowling set bond for Brewer at $10,000 property, $20,000 own recognizance and GPS monitoring. Bond for Brandenburg was set at $20,000 OR and GPS monitoring.

Both defendants have pretrials scheduled for Sept. 4.

In other cases:

• Jason Ratcliff, 34, of 47 Township Road 1334, South Point, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of possession of drugs (oxymorphone), to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and $10,000 OR. A pretrial was set for Sept. 4.

• Katherine Roberts, 25, of 2203 N. Third St., Ironton, admitted community control sanctions violations that she was convicted of a new felony in another county. Bowling sentenced the woman to another four years CCS and 200 hours community service.

• David Barry, 44, of 33 Township Road 1257, Proctorville, was sentenced to two years in prison for a third-degree driving while intoxicated charge, to which he previously pleaded guilty. Bowling also ordered Barry to pay a $2,500 fine and suspended his driver’s license for five years.

• Todd Hehl, 23, of 120 Linda Ave., Lucasville, was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree possession of drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling continued bond from a lower court and added a $10,000 OR bond. A pretrial was set for Sept. 4.

• Dennis Walters, 33, of 9513 State Route 217, Scottown, was arraigned on a count of fifth-degree breaking and entering, to which he pleaded guilty. Bowling sentenced the man to four years CCS under intensive supervised probation, the STAR Community Justice Center and 200 hours community service.

• Tina Peterson, 36, of 163 Township Road 1007, Chesapeake, was arraigned on five third-degree counts of trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree count of trafficking in marijuana and second-degree trafficking in drugs, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $50,000 cash or surety and $50,000 OR. A pretrial was set for Aug. 28.

• Larry Dailey, 46, of 352 36th St., Huntington, W.Va., pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of possession of cocaine and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, criminal trespass and possession of marijuana.

Bowling sentenced the man to four years CCS/ISP, STAR and a $150 fine.

• David Rowe Jr., 36, of 516 Hecla St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of failure to register. Bowling sentenced the man to one year in prison.

• Bobby Dement, 37, of 386 Township Road 88, Proctorville, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of breaking and entering, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and set a pretrial for Aug. 28.

• Kyle David, 47, of 46 Private Drive 142, Proctorville, was arraigned on charges of third-degree having weapons under a disability and misdemeanor cruelty to animals, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $20,000 cash or surety and $10,000 OR. A pretrial was set for Sept. 4.

• Gordon Meredith Jr., 46, of 102 Township Road 1336, South Point, was arraigned on counts of fifth-degree breaking and entering, fifth-degree possessing criminal tools and two counts of criminal trespass, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond $15,000 property and $10,000 OR with a pretrial Aug. 28.

• Myria Nikolov, 34, 113 Ashland Drive Apt. 6, South Point, was arraigned on counts of fifth-degree possession of drugs (oxycodone), misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree tampering with evidence, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $5,000 cash or surety, $10,000 OR and GPS monitoring. A pretrial was set for Sept 4.

• Lena Mallar, 37, of 2109 N. Third St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to a count of third-degree theft of a firearm. Bowling sentenced the woman to four years CCS/ISP, 200 hours community service and outpatient drug counseling.
