Evelyn Weill, 96, of Ironton died Friday Sept. 3, 2010, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Ironton native was born March 23, 1914, the daughter of the late Maurice and Blanche Michaels Edelson. She is preceded in death by her husband ,Martin E. “Marty” Weill whom she married Aug. 17, 1949.
Mrs. Weill was a 1932 graduate of Ironton High School and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1936 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She was the co-owner and operator of Edelson’s Men’s Shop. She was also a member of  the B’nai Sholom Temple in Huntington, W.Va. She was also a former regional director of playgrounds for WPA, joined American Red Cross in 1943-1945, recreation director based in England during WWII, worked at VA hospitals from 1945-1950, a member of United Way and the Mental Health Board, Co-op Club Past President, Child Welfare Club, Century Club and Operation Be Proud.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Rowena Schradski and Alfreda Fantle.
She is survived by two sons, Marc E. Weill of San Francisco, Calif., and Michael “Mickey” Weill of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three grandchildren
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Mickey and Marc Weill, and David Glick officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday at 10 a.m. until the time of service.
