PROCTORVILLE — One number stood out as Fairland coach Roger Snyder looked at the scoreboard: seven errors.

The Dragons defense committed seven errors that enabled the Gallipolis Blue Devils to rally for an 11-10 win Thursday.

"It was just one of those games when we just didn’t play baseball," said Snyder. "That’s one we felt we should have won and we let it get away."

Fairland led 10-8 after six innings, but Gallipolis had four hits and Fairland made one costly errors that allowed the Blue Devils to score four times and get the win.

Fairland had the tying run at third base when the game ended.

After Gallipolis went up 1-0 in the top of the first, Fairland came back with five runs in the first.

Jermey Louden doubled to lead off and scored on Rick Pauley’s two-out double. Stuart Shepherd singled in Pauley, Nick Jones reached on an error, Jon Cleary walked to load the bases, and Toby Morrison’s hard grounder got through the shortstop for two runs. Jonathan Kitchen then singled home Cleary to cap the rally.

The Dragons came back to get a run in the second when Greg Johnson singled, moved up on a passed ball, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pauley.

Morrison doubled and Louden hit a two-out single to make it 7-1 in the third.

Fairland was guilty of four errors, two passed balls, a walk, and allowed just three hits as Gallipolis scored six times in the top of the fifth and tied the game at 7-7.

The Dragons answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jones walked, moved up on a passed ball to third, and scored on an errant pickoff attempt. Kitchen singled, Louden walked, Johnson had an RBI single, and Louden scored on a groundout.

The Dragons, 2-1, host Ironton St. Joe Tuesday.

Rock Hill 9, Fairview 3

PEDRO – The Rock Hill Redmen picked up their first win of the season with a 9-3 spanking of the Fairview (Ky.) Eagles Thursday.

Josh Harper pitched a four-hitter as he struck out nine and walked just one to get the win. Tyler Virgin, J. D. Gore, Brad McFann, and Harper all went 2-3 as the Redmen banged out 12 hits.

"Josh pitched a good game. He threw strikes and let the defense win the game," said Redmen coach Wes Hairston.

Rock Hill got three runs in the first when Virgin and T. J. Dillow singled, McFann’s two-run double, and Harper doubled home the McFann.

Fairview got three in the top of the third, but McFann singled, Harper reached on an error, and Jeff Crabtree singled as Rock Hill went up 4-3 in the bottom of the inning.

Richie Webb had a solo home run in the fourth, and then Gore doubled and Virgin homered in the fifth to make it 7-3.

Two more scored in the sixth as Gore had a two-run single.

Rock Hill hosts South Point at 1 p.m. Friday.
