SCOTTOWN — This is not your grandpa’s bluegrass festival.
Thousands have swarmed Eden Valley Farm in Scottown in the past 11 years for the annual Appalachian Uprising and a big crowd expected this year, said Steve Cielec, who owns the farm with his wife, Gina.
Cielec said good weather is expected for the three day music festival, which runs from Thursday to Saturday and he is hoping the sunshine brings the music lovers out of the woodwork.
“This is a very family-oriented event,” Cielec said. “Camping is included in the price of your ticket and you can come for the whole weekend. It’s good fun for everybody.”
Besides bluegrass, newgrass, country music and drums, Cielec said Uprising also offers those who come out the opportunity for some good hiking around the farm, face painting for the kids and more.
Appalachian Uprising came to be a few years after the Cielec’s bought their Scottown farm. Cielec said he’s from Cleveland originally and he and his wife used to go to concerts all the time.
“When we moved out here there was nothing as far as outdoor concerts go,” Cielec said. “We bought the farm in 1997 and a few years later thought that’d be a good place to hold a music festival.”
Only a couple hundred people attended the first Uprising, but with the last one brining in around 6,000 Cielec said he is glad they decided to continue the festival. He said it has grown steadily each year and he looks forward to the event’s 12th year.
