The Symmes Valley Vikings like their wishbone offense to churn out lots of rushing yardage. It did just that Friday night as the Vikings opened the season with a 44-0 spanking of the Trimble Tomcats.

The Vikings rushed 57 times for 377 yards led by Brad Carpenter who ran 19 times for 153 yards two touchdowns. He also caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Noah Henson.

Speaking of Henson, the senior quarterback had 16 carries for 123 yards and hit 3-of-4 passes for 25 yards.

Jared Leffingwell added 61 yards on 10 carries while Adam Niece had 18 yards on four tries.

"The kids played well from start to finish on both sides of the ball," said Vikings coach Herb Conley. "Noah Henson did a super job running the offense, Brad had another exceptional game, and the offensive line is really starting to come together. They played well."

The defense played well by limiting Trimble to only 14 net yards rushing. Forced to go to the air, quarterback Bobby Trace was 12 of 26 for 130 yards and an interception.

"The defense played well all the way around," said Conley. "It’s always nice when you can shut out a quality team like Trimble."

Carpenter bolted 40 yards for a touchdown less than three minutes into the game to put the Vikings up 6-0.

Moments later after the ensuing kickoff, Justin Berry tackled Trace in the end zone for a safety and it was 8-0.

Henson and Carpenter hooked up on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 7:29 left in the half. Henson threw to Jeremy Copley for the conversion and it was 16-0.

The lead went to 20-0 just before the half when Henson ran one yard for a touchdown.

Carpenter broke free on a 50-yard scoring run at the 7:22 mark of the third quarter and Henson’s conversion run put the lead at 32-0.

Henson came back to score on a 30-yard keeper with just under four minutes to play in the quarter and it was 38-0.

Niece capped the scoring on a 2-yard run with 7:48 to play and Joseph Patterson added the conversion run to set the final score.
