When you are growing up as a teenager in a community – no matter where that town is located – you can’t wait for your life to get started.

But even with all that eagerness, sometimes the idea of taking a chance and heading out into the world is scary, especially when you are from a smaller area.

Sometimes the best motivator to find and follow a dream is the example of someone who has already left home, tried their hand at a dream – and succeeded.

This weekend Ironton native Mickey Fisher is bringing his comedy/music act home to share with his hometown. Fisher took a chance and took his theater talent to New York. He is coming back now to show his friends, fans and family how he is doing.

And Ironton – and Lawrence County – need more visits just like these.

Area students who see someone who is "from here" who has been successful might find a little reinforcement for their resolve to pursue their own dreams. And sharing your tales of life outside of Lawrence County is a nice way to pay back the men and women who supported you when you were just taking your first steps into your career.

This fast-paced world does not make it easy for many natives to come back home, but even one visit could make a difference in someone’s life.

Take the time this weekend to come out and visit with Mickey Fisher – and bring your children. Who knows, you might be boarding the next star on Broadway.
