MAN, W.Va. – How do we score? Let me count the ways. Six different players scored touchdowns four different ways as the Chesapeake Panthers routed the Man Hillbillies 49-8 Friday night.

Chesapeake, 5-0, scored on three running plays, a pass, a punt return, and a fumble recovery.

"The kids executed well and we had guys staying on blocks late and that was good. That allows you to make a lot of different plays," Panthers coach Phil Davis said.

But as well as the offense played, the defense may have been even better.

Man tailback Kenny Ramsey ran for 120 yards, but only 27 came against the first team defense. He rushed for more than 300 yards against the Panthers last season.

Man finished with just 148 yards rushing and 53 passing. Davis gave credit to the defense, especially defensive backs Andy Clark, Robby Isaacs, and Josh Waugh.

"We played really well. The first time Ramsey touched the ball and we hit him and he fumbled," said Davis. "On defense we played well all night. We did a great job shutting Ramsey down, and the pass defense of Waugh and Isaacs and Clark did a great job knocking the ball down. Ramsey is as dangerous as can be, so our linemen and linebackers did a great job shutting him down."

After recovering a fumble, the Panthers drove for the touchdown keyed by a fourth and 30 pass from Clark to Isaacs. Waugh ran the final 10 yards for the score and it was 6-0. The conversion kick was blocked.

"We took the ball down and then Clark made a great throw to Robby to get the first down," said Davis.

Isaacs returned a punt for a touchdown for the second time this season as he ran 65 yards. Chris Dillon had the conversion run and it was 14-0.

Zeb Best finished off a drive with a 4-yard run to open the second quarter and the Panthers were up 21-0.

The defense generated the next touchdown and in the process halted a Man drive deep in Chesapeake territory.

Best made a hit on Ramsey as he took a lateral that caused a fumble, and Matt White picked up the ball and returned it 76 yards for the touchdown with just 22 seconds left in the half for a 28-0 lead.

Isaacs caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter from Clark that extended the lead to 35-0.

Fullback Jeremy Estep’s 15-yard touchdown scamper later in the quarter gave Chesapeake a 42-0 cushion.

Man, 0-5, avoided a shutout when Josh Vance hit Andre Hickman with an 18-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter against the second team. Ramsey added the conversion run.

Dillon’s 10-yard touchdown run capped the scoring for Chesapeake.

The Panthers host Rock Hill next Friday in what could decide the Ohio Valley Conference championship. Chesapeake was the preseason favorite and Rock Hill is 4-1 on the year.
