SOUTH POINT — Sylvia Griffith’s run turned into a walk.
Griffith slugged a two-run walk-off home run that lifted the South Point Lady Pointers to a 5-4 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Fairland Lady Dragons on Monday.
“Everyone contributed in some fashion,” said South Point coach Tanner Heaberlin. “It was a very exciting game. Both teams showed a lot of heart, and I couldn’t be prouder of my team.”
South Point (3-0, 1-0) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Andrea Kleinman doubled home Haley Rawlins and Bri Whaley and then scored when Griffith reached on an error.
Fairland got a run backing the second when Chloe Stanley reached on an error and scored when Kaitlyn Brown was safe on an error.
Mackenzie Riley drilled a three-run homer in the third inning that gave Fairland a 4-3 lead.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the seventh Rawlins doubled and Griffith belted her game-winning home run.
Brown got the win as she gave up four hits, struck out five and walked two.
Chandler Fulks took the loss as she fanned four, walked four and allowed seven hits.
