Next month, more than 150 Ironton and Lawrence County residents will take their audience on a tour of the city’s history in musical form.

These dedicated musicians, thespians and stage crafters are already hard at work on "This Town is America," an original play written and directed by Jeff Handley. Also volunteering their efforts for the community are Kathy Price, vocal director, and Patty Freeman, choreographer.

This is not a small project. Putting together a play is difficult enough when the dialogue has been performed before, but to get together a completely original piece and get enough talent to bring it to the stage is a challenge to say the least.

"This Town is America" is a gift to this community and a chance for residents, natives and visitors to remember the men and women who helped build the city we have today.

It is a chance to make a memory not only for the adults, but for the children as well.

Tickets went on sale Monday for the production, which will be presented Nov. 12-14. They are available from any cast member or at Ohio University Southern Campus and Ironton High School. Buy yours today.

A lot of very busy people are giving up their time to give their community something special for its 150th birthday. Supporting the effort by coming out in force for the production is a good way to say thanks.
