ONA, W.Va. — The weather wasn’t supposed to turn cold until Thursday. The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers hit a cold snap the night before.
Ironton shot 14 of 46 from the field for 30 percent in a 45-35 loss to the Cabell Midland Lady Knights on Wednesday.
“We played them even except for the second quarter. We hit a dry spell,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.
Ironton trailed just 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers managed only 4 points in the second quarter and fell behind 23-13 at the break.
The Lady Tigers shot 5 of 22 from the field in the first half for 22 percent.
“They had a 5-11 girls and a 6-2 girls and they effected our shots inside,” said Graham. “But our ball movement wasn’t very crisp.”
Ariel Schweickart scored 5 points in the third quarter but Midland took a 38-27 lead.
Ironton outscored the Knights 8-7 in the fourth quarter.
Schweickart and Lexie Washington had 11 points each for Ironton (5-2).
Sierra Jordan had 11 points and Stephannie Bias 9 points to pace Cabell Midland.
The Lady Tigers play Spring Valley at 3:45 p.m. Friday in The Ironton Classic.
