AID – You strive for perfection. Candace Sharp found it.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings senior righthander accomplished an amazing feat Friday as she pitched a perfect game and beat the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 13-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Sharp struck out 11 over seven innings as she recorded her masterpiece.

"I’m glad to see her throw a perfect game. She struck out 11, but the defense behind her was there for the other 10 outs," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said. "But she was very understanding that this was something that the entire team accomplished. She said after the game, ‘Girls, I never would have done it without you,’ so you can see she’s a team player and very humble."

Symmes Valley got all the runs it needed in the first by taking a 3-0 lead.

Renae Donahoe singled, moved up on a walk and ground out, and scored when Sharp reached on an error.

A run scored in the third with one out when Sharp singled, stole second, and came home on Tommie Holbrook’s base hit.

The lead went to 6-0 in the fourth.

With one out, Keren Bell was safe on an error, Carol Myers singled, and Bell reached on an error to score the run. Myers moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Sharp grounded out.

The Lady Vikings erupted for seven runs in the sixth.

Bell reached on an error, Jenny Young singled, and Donahoe singled home two runs.

With one out, Scott singled and scored when Holbrook reached on an error to score two runs. Leah Mann then walked and Anna Bodmer reached on an error as two runs scored.

Symmes Valley, 2-1 and 1-0, plays at Ironton Monday.
