Portsmouth – The showdown is set. The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings blasted the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 19-0 on a one-hitter by Candace Sharp to set up a showdown for first place in the Southern Ohio Conference.
Symmes Valley, 7-4 overall but 6-0 in the SOC, hosts Portsmouth Clay, also unbeaten in the league, Wednesday.
"We’ve did what we had to do today to stay in first place, and now we’ve got the big game Wednesday. It’ll be a good one," Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.
Sharp struck out eight and walked only one as she picked up the win.
Renae Donahoe had a big day at the plate to back the pitching of Sharp. Donahoe was 3-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in. Sharp also went 3-5 with four RBI and a double.
Cortney Scott was 2-4 with three RBI and Ginny Young 1-2 as the Vikes banged out 10 hits.
Sharp drove in the two runs with a base hit and Scott had a two-run double in a 10-run third inning that put the Vikings up 13-0.
Symmes Valley combined four hits and five Lady Titan errors to generate the 10 runs.
Donahoe had a three-run double in the fifth inning.
