The board has decided to put a levy on the ballot in August for the last time.

If this measure is passed, South Point will have the matching funds it needs to get the millions in state money that will build a new high school and consolidated elementary school and will renovate the former high school into a middle school.

If the levy fails again, the district loses the money and another school district starts celebrating.

There are still a few months before voters will have to cast their ballots, so there is still plenty of time for both sides to try to convince citizens to see the issue their way.

Now, the admonishment simply should be to get the facts.

With a little less than three months until the election, district voters have plenty of time to explore the issues and to calculate the pros and cons of each vote.

If you have questions, ask a board member or school official and get the information you need to make a responsible decision – no matter what that decision is. This is too important a vote to allow rumors and gossip to determine which hole you punch.

South Point isn’t going to get another chance at this money. A hasty vote – or none at all – could have long-term consequences. Now is the time to make your voice heard.
