By unanimous vote, the board passed three resolutions Tuesday to form the committees.

The first committee will screen candidates and recommend a successor to Rock Hill High School boys’ basketball coach Rick Scarberry.

Scarberry’s coaching contract was not renewed by the board in a mid-April meeting by a 3-2 vote.

No specific reason was given for the non-renewal, superintendent Lloyd Evans said.

Membership on the committee will be the superintendent, the high school principal, one board member and two community members.

An identical committee is set to explore candidates for the high school girls’ basketball coaching position.

That coach resigned recently, board president Wanda Jenkins said.

A committee of the superintendent, the high school principal, one board member and two band boosters members will review candidates for the senior and junior high school band director position.

The band director committee’s first meeting will be Friday. No schedule is available yet for the other committees, Evans said.

The district sought outside input because the positions are lead roles for the district and its community, Evans said.

No community members were appointed to the committee Tuesday, but the board mentioned several potential members during a special meeting Monday night, he said.

Evans said he will contact those community members.

Although the committees will screen candidates and make recommendations, board members will make the final employment decision, Evans said.

June 1 is deadline for applying for all Rock Hill staff positions, including coaches, teachers and those open for three summer ninth grade proficiency exam tutors and four summer school reading teachers.

Committees are not expected to look into those other positions.

Also Thursday, the Rock Hill board voted to:

– Employ Marsha Wagner as school district nurse for the 2000-2001 contract year per adopted salary schedule.

– Employ Amanda Adams as a district teacher for the 2000-2001 contract year per adopted salary schedule.

– Employ Barry Litteral, Todd Knipp and Drew Fry as senior high assistant football coaches for the 2000-2001 school year.
