Tribune publisher takes job in Georgia

Jennifer Allen, president of Ironton Publications, Inc., and publisher of The Ironton Tribune for the past 11 years, has resigned to become publisher of The Griffin Daily News, a 14,000-circulation, seven-day morning newspaper in Griffin, Ga. Her last day at The Tribune will be Friday, July 7.

Prior to moving to Ironton, she was editor and vice president of The Natchez, Miss., Democrat, the largest newspaper in the Boone Newspapers, Inc., group. The Tribune is also part of the BNI group.

The Griffin newspaper is owned by Paxton Media Group. Miss Allen was also a vice president of Boone Newspapers, Inc.

"I have cherished my years in Lawrence County and the Tri-State as well as my 12-year association with Boone Newspapers," Miss Allen said. "It was an extremely difficult decision to make; however, this is an excellent opportunity for me professionally."

During her years in Lawrence County, she was a member of the Ironton Rotary Club, the Ironton Business Association and the Ironton Co-Operative Club, of which she had served as president. She also had served as president of the Ironton Council for the Arts and served on the regional fine arts council.

Miss Allen had served as a vestry member and senior warden at Christ Episcopal Church in Ironton and served on the board of the United Way of the River Cities as well as the new local Lawrence County board of the United Way.

In recent months, she had served as a volunteer with Ironton Mayor Bob Cleary’s economic development team. She was a member of the new Ironton schools’ Gear Up program advisory board.

On a national level, Miss Allen was a two-time Pulitzer Prize juror and had served for many years as chairman of the Associated Press’ small newspapers committee.

No successor has been chosen at this point.
