HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The little man came up big.

Ironton’s Alex Brown, playing in the 10-12 age division, came through with his best tournament of this year’s Tri-State Junior Golf Circuit Friday at Riviera Country Club.

Brown shot a 40 over the nine holes to take first place by one stroke over Jared Allman.

Brown was one of seven local golfers on the next-to-last stop of the circuit, but the only one in the youngest age division.

Ironton’s Joe Crabtree shot a 79 in the 16-18 age group while Chesapeake’s Joey Macri carded an 81.

In the 13-15 age division, Proctorville’s Austin Burcham had a 71 to finish in a tie for second with Cameron Weis, one shot behind winner Jared Jones.

South Point’s Tyler Stapleton shot an 80 and Chesapeake’s Trent Finley had an 83 and Justin Finley a 94.

The next tournament is July 28 at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W.Va.. Soft spikes are required.

Entry deadline is 3 p.m. on the Wednesday. Entry forms are available at all area golf courses including the Ironton Country Club.
