Several local softball players have put the Diamond Dusters on the road to the national championship.

The Diamond Dusters are an ASA girls fast pitch softball team that is based in Huntington.

Ashley Carmon, Ashley McCloud, Sarah Baise, Jennifer Jones, Kristin Huff, Rachel Staley and Maria Frazier are the area girls who have helped the Dusters qualify for the 2000 ASA 16 and under National Championship in Garland, Texas this week.

Summer has been a prosperous time for the Diamond Dusters having competed in eight tournaments winning four titles. They have also claimed two second place finishes and one third place.

The Dusters also hold the title for winning the 18 and under West Virginia State Championship. They also won a national qualifier in Fairborn, Ohio.

The Diamond Dusters have amassed a 42-9 record this year.

Also on the team are Jennifer McNeeley, Nicki Robbins, Steve Pauley, Katie Black and Andrea Lewis. They are coached by Larry Verbage and Bill Black.
