HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – It was time to play with the big boys.

The Huntington Invitational Golf Tournament featured some of the Tri-State’s top teams, and the Ironton Fighting Tigers were right among the elite.

Ironton posted a 402 team score to place third behind Cabell Midland at 373 and Spring Valley at 390.

Each team played five players and all five scores were counted.

Leading Ironton was Adam Rudmann with a 76. Andy Brown and Bo McGinnis each had solid rounds of 80, Josh Cartmell was just one stroke behind at 81, and Zach Christian finished with an 85.

Midland’s Scott Redmond shot a 70 to take medalist honors. Huntington’s Brad Tweel and Charleston Catholic’s John Clubb each had rounds of 72.

The Fairland Dragons were 10th in the 22 team field with a 415 team score. Matt Hansford shot a 79 to lead the Dragons.

Kyle Leadman shot an 81, Austin Burcham an 82, J. J. Ferris 84, and Josh Dunfee 89.

Ironton is now 50-11 on the season.

Two matches, two wins.

Fighting Tigers golf team swept a pair of matches last Tuesday and Wednesday by beating Portsmouth West and Hurricane, W.Va.

On Tuesday at Shawnee in Portsmouth, Ironton took a six-stroke victory over the Portsmouth West Senators, 149 to 155.

Rudmann had a sizzling 1-under par 34 to take medalist honors while McGinnis shot even par to pace the Fighting Tigers.

Brown and Cartmell aided the Ironton effort as each carded a solid round of 40. Rounding out the Ironton scoring were Christian at 43 and T. J. Parnell had a 47.

Ironton came back the next day at Sleepy Hollow, W.Va., to top Hurricane by nine strokes, 162 to 171.

Hurricane’s Matt O’Dell took medalist honors with a one-over par 37, but Ironton Brown and Parnell each fired a 3-over par 39 to lead the way.

Rudmann shot a 41 and Christian a 43 to complete the team scoring for the day. McGinnis was next with a 44 and Cartmell was just one stroke off at 45.

Ironton plays at Spring Valley Wednesday in a duel match.
