Dement, 36, of Proctorville, pleaded guilty this summer to first-degree felony rape of an 8-year-old girl. He was sentenced Sept. 14 to 18 years in prison.

While awaiting trial, Dement was accused of vandalizing the courthouse, making a weapon and carrying that weapon into the Lawrence County Jail.

The Lawrence County Grand Jury, which met Monday and Tuesday, indicted Dement on charges of vandalism to a courthouse, fifth-degree felony, possession of a deadly weapon while under detention, second-degree felony, illegal conveyance of a weapon or prohibited items onto the grounds of a detention facility, fourth-degree felony, illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon onto courthouse grounds, fifth-degree felony, county prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr. said this morning.

The grand jury also returned an indictment charging Charles Fisher, 19, 726 S. Tenth St., with two counts of aggravated arson, Collier said.

Fisher was arrested in June on charges related to a fire that destroyed Baker’s Dozen and an apartment in downtown Ironton. The arrest came after fire officials discovered evidence that caused reasonable doubt about the fire’s origin, officials said.

Other indictments filed this morning included:
