This scrimmage doesn’t count in the win-loss column, but it counts in a lot of other ways.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers hosts the St. Joseph Female Flyers at 1 p.m. Saturday in a Foundation Service Week volleyball match that will benefit a local charity.

The game is for “Operation Santa,” a local chapter organization of the Marine Corps Family Support Community. The chapter sends Christmas packages to the Tri-State servicemen and women who are serving overseas.

“Our military sacrifice so much to keep us safe and we would like to try and help a little,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell.

“The girls of both teams are working very hard to collect items for the service men and women. The Marine Corps Family Support Community sends to all branches of the military.”

Some of the items requested are:

CDs for servicemen and women mainly between the ages of 18-26

Boxes of hot chocolate mix or individual powered drink or mix, tea or coffee

Nuts, trail mix and sunflower seeds
