CHESAPEAKE — There will be some new faces at a well-loved event in Chesapeake — the annual Chesapeake, Proctorville, Rome Lions Club annual pancake breakfast.

This year members of Operation TLC will help out, waiting on patrons and bussing tables at the breakfast set for Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Chesapeake Elementary School, from 7 to 11 a.m.

The volunteer beautification organization has plans to landscape the area by the Sixth Street Bridge in Chesapeake. The goal is to plant knockout roses, a low-lying lime green shrubbery, crimson barberry bushes and pampas grass along with decorative stones and rocks at one of the entrances in the village.

Cost for the project is estimated to be at $5,000 and already TLC has received donations from the Village of Chesapeake, the VFW 6878 Ladies Auxiliary in Proctorville and the Proctorville Woman’s Club. The organization has also gotten a $1,000 grant for the Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc.

Now, with their work at the breakfast, Operation TLC will share in the proceeds with the Lions Club.

“We have been impressed with the work they have done around,” John Hall, Lions Club president, said. “We decided to team up with them to help improved the surroundings of the community.”

The menu for the morning will be pancakes, sausage, coffee, juice and milk. Tickets for the all-you-can meal will be $5 at the door or can be purchased from any Lions Club or TLC member.

Typically the breakfast nets $2,000, with half of that going to Operation TLC. The remainder will go back to the Lions Club projects.

“Our slogan is ‘We serve,’” Hall said. “We are known mainly for eyeglasses. We help people get eye exams and eyeglasses and we recycle use glasses. We have boxes around the county. We can have the glasses tested and send them to someone else around the world. We do a lot of good things.”
