Like father, like son. Following a similar honor won by his father, Ironton linebacker Chad Parker, a 6-foot, 220-pound senior, was named the Southeast district Division IV Defensive Player of the Year to headline area selections on the all-district football team.

Parker’s father, Terry, is an assistant coach for Ironton who was the Class AA district Lineman of the Year in 1973 when he helped lead Ironton to the state championship game and an 11-1 record.

Ironton finished 11-1 this season and Chad Parker led the Fighting Tigers in tackles while also performing well at offensive guard.

Senior Roman Fry, a 6-4, 240-pound senior, was Ironton’s only first team offensive selection as he was named to the offensive line.

Fry, who has 10 Division I college offers on the table including Clemson, West Virginia, Indiana, Wake Forest, Purdue, and Ohio University, was a candidate for the Offensive Player of the Year award.

Tommy Lutz, a 6-5, 195-pound senior, was named the team’s placekicker.

However, Ironton had four defensive selections including Parker.

Senior Hugh Scott (6-2, 195) was named as a defensive back, and senior nose guard Tyler Scior (5-7, 170) was voted to the defensive line.

Named to the special mention list were senior quarterback and safety Drew Mains (5-10, 180), senior end and safety Chris Frazer (6-3, 205), junior tackle Tyler Whaley (5-11, 245), and junior fullback and linebacker Matt White (6-1, 205).

Ironton’s Bob Lutz was selected as the Division IV Coach of the Year after guiding Ironton to a 10-0 regular season record, the Associated Press poll championship, and earning his 300th career victory.

Portsmouth running back Jo Jo Parker, who was the Associated Press state Division III Offensive Player of the Year last season, was voted the Offensive Player of the Year in Division IV.

The South Point Pointers landed senior running back Shane Holsinger (5-11, 160) and senior defensive lineman Bryan Maggard (6-0, 200) on the first unit. Named to the special mention list were senior defensive back Justin Eaches (5-8, 160), junior defensive end Patrick McNeely (5-8, 150), and senior return specialist Adam Workman (5-10, 155).

Fairland senior defensive lineman Darin Thomas (5-11, 208) was a first team choice while senior linebacker Chris Hardy (6-1, 211) and sophomore defensive back Tristan Clark (5-9, 155) were special mention.

Rock Hill had two special mention selections, senior lineman Tyler Boggs (5-10, 190) and senior end Josh Fuhr (6-2, 190).

Chesapeake headed the Division V selections with senior lineman Eric Myers (6-1, 220) on the first team offense and senior linebacker Jesse Ansell (6-0, 200) on the first unit defense.

Special mention selections went to the Panthers senior linebacker Jason Brammer (5-11, 195), senior quarterback Tommy Hill (6-2, 190), junior running back Michael Hunt (5-11, 175), and sophomore running back Cody Hunt (5-8, 155).

Coal Grove had senior defensive back Shaun Smith (5-8, 153) on the first team. Named special mention were senior quarterback J. J. Hunt (5-4, 148) and end Steve Bruce (5-11, 160).

The Division V top offensive player was Brian Netter of Southeastern, the best defensive player Boyd Bailey of Wheelersburg, and the coach of the year was Daron Myers of Zane Trace.

In Division VI, the Symmes Valley Vikings had four first team picks and the Green Bobcats three.

Senior end Jared Leffingwell (6-1, 180), senior center Kent Shipley (6-2, 220), senior defensive back Billy McCarty (5-9, 165), and junior linebacker Joseph Patterson (5-11, 175) were named to the first team.

Special mention honors went to quarterback Drew Hunt (6-2, 175), running back Michael Roth (5-8, 165), and fullback Nathan Pinkerman (5-4, 155), all juniors.

Green senior running back Brad Bainer (5-10, 185) was a first team pick along with senior offensive lineman Jacob Yarnell (6-2, 215) and junior defensive back Jimmy Moore (6-1, 155).

On the special mention list was senior linebacker Alan Salyers (6-0, 207) and senior offensive lineman Brandon Vinson (6-0, 180).

Waterford’s Dan Doebereiner was the top offensive player, Trimble’s Kyle Andrews the defensive player of the year, and Trimble’s Phil Faires the top coach.
