The cases of eight people arrested earlier this month in a methamphetamine lab bust in Hanging Rock were bound over to the Lawrence County Grand Jury Thursday.

Melissa York, 27, of 3992 State Route 503, Wurtland, Ky., waived her right to a preliminary hearing and agreed to have her case sent to the grand jury.

She is charged with administering or manufacturing a controlled substance and possession of criminal tools.

The other seven requested preliminary hearings in Ironton Municipal Court. After hearing the information against them, Judge O. Clark Collins found sufficient evidence to send their cases to the grand jury.

Michael Chatfield, 30, of 150 Daniel Drive, Hanging Rock; Katie Horsley, 31, of 148 Township Road 283N, Ironton; James Hay, 18, of 52 Apache Way, Argillite, Ky.; Amber Hay, 19, also of 52 Apache Way, Argillite; David Ritchie, 19, of 506 Chinn’s Branch Road, Wurtland, Ky.; Aaron Dillow, 34, of 7304 Township Road 80, Bellville, and Earl W. Horsley II, 33, of 36 Mound Park Greenup, Ky., are all charged with manufacturing or cultivating illegal drugs and possession of criminal tools. Earl Horsley is also charged with tampering with evidence.

All eight people were arrested Aug. 17 at Chatfield’s residence.

The police said they had been given a tip that people were at that residence making meth.

Authorities said they found materials to make the illegal substance. It was the third meth lab found in Lawrence County this year.
