“Little Women: The Broadway Musical” is coming to Ironton this weekend. Scene One Theatre of Columbus will offer performances at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ironton High School Auditorium.
The musical is directed by IHS alumnus Matt Johnson who owns the theater company and is director of the production.
“This is the first time I’ve been able to bring one of my theatrical productions home, and this is the biggest show I’ve ever done. So it’s really exciting to have that opportunity and be able to have my hometown area see it,” Johnson said. “We just did three shows in Athens and the response was phenomenal, so we can’t wait to come to Ironton.”
The cast includes college and high school students. It is based on the classic book by Louisa May Alcott about the four March sisters and coming of age during the Civil War.
Johnson, a 2002 graduate of Ironton High School, was for several years a hiphop/R&B music artist who performed under the name of Gyfted.
He began exploring his passion for the theatrical a few years ago and is also the theater director at Alexander High School in Albany, Ohio.
