Community Fair at BCPL is April 10

ASHLAND, Ky. — Connecting community groups with local people looking to become involved is the goal of the upcoming Community Fair at Boyd County Public Library.

The library is registering groups to participate in the fourth annual event, on Saturday, April 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the main branch, 1740 Central Ave.

The library will provide tables and chairs. Groups must bring their information and have a representative present during the entire fair. Small giveaway items are also encouraged.

The Community Fair kicks off National Library Week 2010, which has the theme “Communities Thrive at Your Library.”

“The Community Fair is a chance for the public to see what their community has to offer,” Director Debbie Cosper explained. “Sometimes it’s hard to find that particular group or program you are interested in, and it’s hard for groups to find new members or volunteers. So, we bring both sides together for an educational and fun afternoon.”

Boyd County Public Library Friends will hold a bake sale.

Highlands Museum to host free concert

ASHLAND, Ky. — The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center and Ashland Main Street present Rob McNurlin and the Beatnik Cowboys live in concert, First Friday, April 2 at 6 p.m. in the Cecil Fannin Family Main Event Hall at the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center. Admission is free.

This is the premier of the Rob McNurlin Ranch Party Television Program, beginning Saturday mornings in April on MyZ TV.

Volunteer training scheduled at Ohio Horse Park

FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Ohio University Southern Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace is seeking volunteers for spring or fall to assist the Center for Therapeutic Riding.

Experience is not necessary and all volunteers will be trained during the training session on Tuesday, April 13, at 5:00 p.m at The Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace.

People interested in helping teach safe and basic equestrian lessons to children and adults with emotional, social, behavioral, mental, and physical disorders are encouraged to register for the upcoming training session.

Volunteers are needed to lead, tack, and groom horses and interact positively with children and adults.

April 3 egg hunt for kids 10 and under

ASHLAND, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library is celebrating Easter with an egg hunt for kids ages 10 and under.

Nearly 1,000 eggs will be hidden outside the Main Branch on Saturday, April 3. There will be two age groups: toddler through age 5; and 6 to 10. No child older than 10 will be allowed to participate.

The Library is partnering this year with Crabbe Elementary, located adjacent to the main branch on Central Avenue.

The younger children will hunt for eggs in the library’s Reading Garden, and the older ones will do their hunting in the Crabbe playground area, behind the library.

Everyone should gather outside the library, in the Library Commons area.

The younger children will go first, precisely at 2 p.m.

It is important to arrive early to make sure the kids are ready to go.

All the eggs will contain candy or a small toy. A few will have tickets, which can be redeemed for prizes.

Participants need to bring their own basket or bag to collect the eggs.
