An Ironton man was arrested Wednesday and charged with making terroristic threats against the management of the Liebert Corporation. In the threat he allegedly referenced the recent theater attack in Aurora, Colo.

David Laber, 40, of 152 Township Road 606, Ironton, was arraigned Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court. Judge O. Clark Collins set bond at $50,000 and appointed attorney Scott Evans to represent Laber.

Collins also scheduled an Aug.8 preliminary hearing.

According to an Ironton Police Department report, Laber allegedly asked a fellow employee at Liebert “if she had ever thought about shooting anybody which she stated no.”

The fellow employee told authorities Laber had told her he had thought about shooting people “and that he would start with the front office (of Liebert), ” according to the report.

Laber specifically named two members of management at the Ironton business. One person, according to officer Brian Pauley’s report, was allegedly targeted because that person had spoken to Laber about leaving his work area.

According to the police report, the fellow employee “further states that David then asked her if she had ever thought about grinding people up and watching it and then serving it up, which she again stated no.”

The report said, “David also asked her if she ever thought about putting bombs in Liebert.” Laber reportedly told his coworker he would “start with the front office” and would do it “like the guy in Colorado.”

Pauley said in his report that the fellow employee told police Laber had informed her he was bipolar but was not taking his medication because he could not afford it. When officers spoke to Laber he denied being under a doctor’s care. Pauley said. However, Laber’s fiancée told authorities when they contacted her that Laber had been seeing a doctor in Coal Grove and was supposed to be “on six or seven different medications” for his condition.

Laber remains in the Lawrence County Jail.
