FLATWOODS, Ky. -- Charles L. Martin, 64, of Flatwoods died Wednesday at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
The Coal Grove, Ohio, native was born Dec. 23, 1937, the son of the late Charles Lee and Edna Dutey Martin.
He was the husband of Rosalee Sheffield Martin, who survives.
The U.S. Army veteran of 20 years was a Sergeant First Class; and he also was with the U.S. Navy for four years, serving in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was employed for 20 years as postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service in South Portsmouth, Ky., retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Holy Family Church, Knights of Columbus, Third Degree, a Kentucky Colonel and was in his second term with the Flatwoods City Council.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Stevens.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald B. and Heather Montgomery of Easton, Ill., and Gregory Montgomery of Flatwoods; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy Montgomery of Charlotte, N.C., and Brandi Lee and Jesse James of Ashland; five grandchildren, Joshua, Johnathan and Joell Montgomery and Jeffrey and Ciara C. James; three brothers, John Martin of Kitts Hill and William Martin and Larry Martin, both of Coal Grove; and one sister, Mona Bundy of Coal Grove.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ashland Holy Family Church, with Father John P. Noe officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens, with military graveside rites. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Lazear Funeral Home, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m.
