Some Chesapeake residents say they need clean drinking water and are tired of waiting for it.

April Scarberry, who lives on Bradrick-Shafertown Road said she and some of her neighbors have been waiting years to get city water service in their area. Thursday she asked the Lawrence County Commission for a status report.

"It's not getting any better out there," Scarberry said. "People need water."

Commission President Jason Stephens said local officials met recently with representatives from the various water companies that serve Lawrence County. Water company officials agreed to give local leaders a list of their priority projects for the next five years, so that the government leaders can assist them in extending service to unserved areas of the county.

"Once we have that we can go to funding sources to get money to help," Stephens said. "We do have tap assistance money. Everyone without water has an urgent need."
