PEDRO -- It's called balance.

It's hard to focus on one or two players when it comes to the Rock Hill Redwomen. They all seem to have something to contribute. That fact was evident Monday as the Redwomen slipped past the Fairland Lady Dragons 50-44 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Miranda Edwards was the only Rock Hill player in double figures as she scored 10 points. In all, eight different players scored as Rock Hill climbed to within a half-game of the OVC lead.

Rock Hill is 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Chesapeake is 4-1 and South Point is also 3-1.

Fairland (6-7, 1-4) was led by Jennifer Jones who had 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Kristen Berry added five rebounds and Megan Fisher chipped in 8 points and two steals.

The Lady Dragons shot just 30 percent from the field, but head coach Nathan Speed was more concerned with his team's rebounding.

"There's always something different each game. Tonight we had just four offensive rebounds. You have to get more than one shot every time down the court," Speed said.

"This is a young team and we just have to learn how to be more consistent in all areas. We're not getting blown out, we just haven't learned how to win the tight games."

Monica Bamer scored 5 points in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 10-9 lead. The Redwomen were up 20-15 at the half as Fairland failed to make a field goal in the second quarter.

Jones had 5 points the third quarter, but Rock Hill was able to extend its lead to 35-28.

Jones scored 8 more points in the fourth quarter, but Edwards had 5 points and the Redwomen -- just 15 of 31 for the game from the foul line -- converted 6 of 8 free throw attempts down the stretch to come away with the victory.
