NEW BOSTON -- The Green Bobcats hopes for a Southern Ohio Conference championship took a turn for the worse.
The Bobcats lost 86-72 to the New Boston Tigers Friday and dropped a game behind in the league race. Green could have pulled even in the standings after East upset first place Symmes Valley.
Green shot an impressive 27 of 54 from the field but was unable to overcome New Boston's output.
"Basically, from the start of the game until the time it ended, we just didn't get the job done," Green coach Kevin Lewis said.
"You go on the road and shoot 50 percent, you'd think you would be okay. Some of the credit goes to New Boston, and some of it is due to us."
Timmy Yarnell had 28 points and eight rebounds for Green while Ben Dyer scored 24 points and had three assists. Aaron Patten added 16 points and Derek Lewis handed out three assists.
New Boston (11-6) had three players score more than 20 points. John Kelly had 23 points while B. J. Darling and Greg Mauk scored 21 points each.
Mauk had 8 points as New Boston took a 24-19 lead. Yarnell had 10 points and Patten 7 for the Bobcats in the quarter.
Yarnell got 7 more points in the second quarter, but Kelly scored 6 as the Tigers pulled away to a 42-30 halftime lead.
Despite a combined 15 points by Yarnell and Dyer, Green fell behind 66-50 after three quarters as Darling scored 11 points.
The Bobcats tried to rally in the fourth quarter as Dyer scored 13 points, but Kelly countered with 9 points.
