Three people were injured, one of them seriously, in a two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Hog Run Road about a mile from Coal Grove.

The driver of one car was trapped inside for a time as emergency services personnel worked to free him from his vehicle, which reportedly rolled over more than once after it was broadsided by the other vehicle.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. John Smith said the driver who was trapped inside his car was taken from the scene by a SEOEMS squad to the Dawson-Bryant High School parking lot and then taken by helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

A passenger in that car and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. Their names were not available late Saturday evening. Smith said the accident remains under investigation.

The accident required the services of SEOEMS, Upper Township and Ironton fire departments, Coal Grove and Ironton police departments as well at the state patrol. The accident had traffic at a standstill for more than an hour.
