It’s as much of a Memorial Day tradition as picnics and barbeques.
The annual Charity Fair to benefit the Ironton Catholic Schools begins Friday evening and continues through Monday morning.
There are a couple of new offerings this year. Charity Fair co-chairperson Cara Clark said participants can try their luck with Eurobungee, a cable-stayed ride that springs people through the air, and a mechanical bull.
“They (the games supplier) asked if we wanted to try something new,” Clark explained.
The Eurobungee and mechanical bull will be available Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
During the fair, the Catholic Women’s Club will raffle off a quilt and a needlepoint picture. Baked goods and collectibles will also be for sale from the CWC.
There will also be a basket raffle during the fair. The raffle of themed baskets includes an Ohio State basket, a beach-themed basket, a Disney basket and an ice cream basket as well as pirate, grill, tool and garden baskets.
“This is our biggest fundraiser for the schools’ general fund,” Charity Fair co-chairperson Sissy Clyse said.
Charity Fair begins with Alumni Night at 9 p.m. Friday. Also called Monte Carlo Night, the festivities are 9 p.m. to midnight at the Knights of Columbus on South Third and Kemp streets.
Then Saturday the action moves to the St. Joseph High School and St. Joseph Church grounds. Games, food vendors and other activities will begin at 11 a.m. and continue through 10:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. the music group The Perfect Gentlemen will take the stage.
On Sunday, Charity Fair opens at 10 a.m. with breakfast. The menu is sausage, biscuits and gravy and homemade rolls. Rides, games and other activities open at 1 p.m. and continue until 10:30 p.m. A spaghetti dinner will be 3-6 p.m. At 7 p.m. City Heat will perform. The fair closes Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. It will reopen Monday morning at 9 a.m. Bake sales and food booths will operate during the parade.
