SOUTH POINT-

In a few months, the congregation at Tri-State Baptist Temple will have a new place for church socials and youth activities.

Ground was broken Saturday for a new youth/multipurpose building. The new 60- by 80-foot building is being built behind the church between the office building and the day care center.

"We'll have church offices on one end and the kitchen and restrooms and an open space on the other end," Pastor Earl Sammons said. "The open space will have a high ceiling for youth activities and sports. We'll also have senior citizen's activities and receptions and dinners and things of that nature (in the new building)."

The new facility has been in the works for a while. It has been talked about for several years, but plans were finalized only recently. Sammons said he hopes to have the project completed in approximately three months.
