The Lawrence County Commission received a check this week for $11,487.93. The money is

from the Dean State Forest, tax monies from timber sales in the forest after last February's

ice storm.

Last year, forestry officials began to clear away trees that were damaged or had fallen because of the ice storm. The first payment of tax monies amounting to $45,951.70, was passed along in November.

The Rock Hill School District will get the half the tax monies. The county and Decatur Township will split the other 50 percent. The county's portion will go into its general fund.

Forestry officials plan to continue ice storm cleanup this year by bringing in a helicopter crew to remove what's left.
