ROME TOWNSHIP - State Route 7 was reduced to one lane Friday following a landslide near the the Narrows.

Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation's Lawrence County Highway Maintenance Facility worked to clear the roadway Friday afternoon and early evening. ODOT officials said the route will be open to two lanes of travel once all debris has been cleared.

Bad weather also created a traffic headache on the other end of the county Friday. A large rock fell from the hillside overlooking Deep Cut Road near its intersection with U.S. 52.

By noon, the rock and accompanying mud had been moved to the side of the road to allow for one-lane traffic.

In addition to this lane restriction, motorists were advised of sewer areas of high water on various routes in Lawrence County. They included State Route 141, between the 19 and 20-mile markers near Arabia; State Route 93, between the 11 and 13-mile markers in the Center Station and Bartles areas; and State Route 775, between the 7 and 8-mile markers just south of Scottown.

Currently, these routes remain open. However, as creek and ditch waters continue to rise, closure of these routes and others may become necessary. Motorists are reminded to exercise extreme caution when traveling through these areas.
