PROCTORVILLE - Nobody is perfect, but Megan Auxier came close.

Allowing only a lead off walk in the seventh inning to ruin her perfect game, Auxier pitched a no-hitter Monday as the Fairland Lady Dragons blanked the River Valley Lady Raiders 1-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Auxier struck out 14 as he fashioned her masterpiece.

"Auxier had another outstanding performance. This is the best she's thrown. She moved the ball around well and kept the hitters off-balance. And she was usually ahead in the count," Fairland coach Leroy Baise said.

Although Auxier walked the lead off batter in the seventh to spoil the perfect game, she struck out the next three batters to end the game.

McFann pitched well in defeat as she gave up three hits, struck out eight and walked one.

"The McFann girl is tough to hit. She's quicker than you think," Baise said.

Fairland scored the game's only run in the fifth inning.

Kelly Curry singled to led off the inning. She moved to second on a passed ball and then stole third base. Ashley Ward beat out a bunt single down the third base line allowing Curry to score.

Fairland, 3-1, hosts Chesapeake Wednesday. River Valley is 0-1.
