CHESHIRE - Megan Auxier wasn't a one-man team, but she tried.

Auxier pitched a four-hitter to go along with two hits, a run scored and two runs batted in as Fairland beat River Valley 6-2 Wednesday.

"Auxier has done a fantastic job pitching for us and tonight she stepped up and hit for us," Fairland coach Leroy Baise said.

"And I can't say enough about (catcher) Erika (Smoot). She and Megan really work well together."

Fairland is 8-3 overall and leads the OVC at 4-0. The Lady Dragons play at Chesapeake Friday in a key league game.

Fairland got a run in the third when Auxier tripled and Megan Fisher singled.

River Valley got two runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 2-1, but Fairland tied the game in the fourth inning.

Kelly Curry singled, stole second, took third when Smoot grounded out and came home on Kate Nida's fielder's choice.

The Lady Dragons then scored the four decisive runs in the sixth inning.

Curry and Smoot and Kate Nida all singled to load the base. Kristen Berry walked to force in a run and Ashley Ward had an RBI single. Auxier followed with a two-run single and cap the rally.
