PORTSMOUTH - In baseball there's pitching, hitting and defense.

The defense must have missed a sign.

"We just had too many errors early. We gave them their first four and got down and that was it," Hornets coach John Jones said.

Coal Grove jumped in front to start the game with its run in the first inning. Tommy Pemberton singled with two outs and Nick Bazell doubled off the wall.

Portsmouth tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Drew Howard was safe on an error, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Andrew Newman's sacrifice fly.

The Trojans took the lead with two runs in the second inning.

Jon Chandler singled, was sacrificed to second, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Greg Swords. With two outs, Jacob Llewellyn reached on a three-base error and Howard singled.

The lead went to 5-1 in the third inning.
